It is very important that Medicare recipients review their plan options every year. This is because plans can change from year to year or may even be discontinued, leaving you without providers.

Plans that are discontinued are referred to as “non-renewing” plans. Such plans send out notices beginning Oct. 15. If you have received notice that your plan will not be renewed, or if you are not happy with your current plan, HICAP can help you find a 2026 plan that will work for you.

HICAP Medicare Part D Clinic

HICAP will offer one clinic on Saturday, Dec. 5, to provide comparison services about 2027 Medicare Part D prescription drug plans. The clinic is offered live in-person and via Zoom.

Following are instructions to take part in the clinic:

• Saturday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m.
• You may attend in person at the HICAP office, located at 505 12th Street, Sacramento. Or you may attend online via Zoom by going to https://bit.ly/2026HICAPdropin
• RSVPs are appreciated but not required.
• We also provide a worksheet to request assistance.

Non-Renewing Plans in Our Area

The following plans are non-renewing in the counties indicated:

• Aetna Signature PPO in Sacramento and Yolo Counties
• Aetna Enhanced PPO in Sacramento and Yolo Counties
• Aetna Eagle Plus PPO in Sacramento and Yolo Counties
• Alignment MyChoice PPO in Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Yolo Counties
• Alignment Honor+ HMO in Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Yolo Counties
• Anthem Medicare Advantage HMO in Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Yolo Counties
• Anthem Prime HMO in Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Yolo Counties
• Central Health Classic Care III Plan HMO in Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Yolo Counties
• Central Health Valor Care HMO in Sacramento and San Joaquin Counties
• Wellcare Low Premium HMO in Yolo County

Medicare Part D plans are statewide. The following Part D plans are non-renewing for 2027:

• Aetna SilverScript Choice
• HealthSpring Extra Rx

What if Your Plan is Non-Renewing?

If you are a current member of a non-renewing plan, you have an extended period to make changes. If you want coverage to start Jan. 1, you have until Dec. 31 to enroll in a plan. Participants in non-renewing Medicare Advantage plans also have an opportunity to purchase a Medicare supplement policy with guaranteed issue.

It is possible to wait to enroll in a new plan. Participants in non-renewing plans actually have until Feb. 28, 2027, to enroll in another Medicare Advantage or Prescription Drug Plan. But, if you don’t enroll by Dec. 31, there will be a gap in your coverage.
