How to Become a Registered Counselor

What is a registered counselor and why are they needed?

A HICAP Counselor, staff or volunteer, is a person trained, registered, and authorized by the State of California to serve as a Counselor to Medicare beneficiaries. Counselors are needed to assist beneficiaries with complex issues related to Medicare and private Medicare supplemental insurance.

What does a registered counselor do?

Counselors serve Medicare beneficiaries by providing information and assistance regarding issues with Medicare and other health related services.
Counselors are provided excellent training and ongoing education and support. They are kept abreast of current information from Medicare.
